15th May 1972 marks the formal recognition of Bangladesh as an independent country by Brazil. President Bolsonaro and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina exchanged congratulatory letters on occasion of the 50 years of Bangladesh Brazil diplomatic relations.

Both countries have long been good friends since independence of Bangladesh. Due to unavoidable circumstances both countries had closed their respective Embassies. However, since 2012 they have resumed full-fledged diplomatic operations. The passion for football of the Bangladeshi nation is a common ground of friendship between the two friendly nations.
